The company, founded in 2024, just secured $8 million in seed funding led by SYN Ventures and FXP Ventures, with backing from Underscore VC and several angel investors.
What caught my eye is how Terra is blending agentic AI with human-in-the-loop supervision to completely rethink continuous web application penetration testing.
Here’s why it matters for us in IT and security roles:
Terra isn’t offering another checkbox-style security test. Instead, they’ve built a continuous pen testing platform where AI agents are custom-tailored to each organization’s environment. These agents:
- Adapt in real-time, running tests automatically when new vulnerabilities are found
- Create a custom test plan for each web application
- Are supervised by human experts to boost accuracy and reduce false positives
In short, they’ve tackled one of the biggest frustrations many of us have — finding a balance between automation and reliable results.
With this new investment, Terra plans to:
- Expand its offensive security platform with new capabilities
- Enhance the AI agents’ skills, making them even sharper and more context-aware
- Launch an agentic AI red teaming solution to simulate more advanced attack scenarios
- Grow beyond web applications to cover entire networks
That’s a big deal if you’re thinking about end-to-end security, not just protecting public-facing apps.
While Terra is still early in its journey, multiple organizations — including Fortune 500 companies — are already on board. It’s a strong signal that larger enterprises are willing to trust this hybrid AI-human approach.
